Waterbury stands at a crossroads. The city that once thrived with opportunity and community spirit now faces challenges that require strong leadership and active citizen involvement. President and Chairman Neil Ford is urging all Waterbury Progressive Democrats, and every resident who believes in the city’s potential, to step forward and make their voices heard. This call to action is about more than politics; it is about reclaiming Waterbury’s future for all its citizens.
Advocates for All of Waterbury
Since the newest Board of Aldermen took office, only a handful have consistently stood up for the interests of the entire city. Alderman Feliciano-Roman, Alderwoman Martinez-McCarthy, Alderman Sanchez, Alderwoman Zimmerman, and Alderman Grasso have shown dedication not just to their districts but to Waterbury as a whole. Their efforts highlight the importance of leadership that looks beyond local boundaries to address citywide concerns.
On the other hand, several aldermen and alderwomen, including Alderman Digiovancarlo, Curran, Rinaldi, Blake, Hunter, Noujaim, Mosely, Drewry, and Alderwoman Weaver, have expressed belief in the possibility of change but remain tied to old habits. Their close relationships with former Mayor Neil O’Leary and current Mayor Paul Pernerewski Jr. seem to influence their decisions, sometimes at the expense of bold progress.
Why Your Voice Matters
Waterbury’s future depends on active participation from its residents. President Ford emphasizes that change will not come from comfort or complacency. Instead, it requires citizens to engage with local government, attend meetings, and advocate for policies that benefit the entire community, especially the children who represent the city’s future.

The Power of Collective Action
Waterbury’s challenges are complex, but history shows that communities can overcome difficulties when they unite. By coming together, Progressive Democrats and all residents who care about the city can push for policies that restore Waterbury’s strengths:
Improved Public Services
Advocating for better schools, safer neighborhoods, and reliable infrastructure.
Economic Growth
Supporting local businesses and attracting new investments to create jobs.
Transparency and Accountability
Holding elected officials responsible to ensure decisions reflect the community’s best interests.
Examples of Progress Through Advocacy
In recent years, cities that have seen positive change often had citizens who actively engaged with their local governments. For example, in nearby communities, residents attending school board meetings helped secure funding for after-school programs and improved facilities. Similarly, public pressure has led to better maintenance of public parks and streets. Waterbury can achieve similar results if its citizens commit to participation.
Moving Forward Together
President Neil Ford’s call is clear: Waterbury needs its residents to step up. Whether you are a Progressive Democrat or simply someone who loves this city, your involvement matters. Attend meetings, speak up, and support leaders who prioritize the city’s well-being over personal ties or comfort.
The path to restoring Waterbury’s former glory is through active, informed, and united citizens. This is your opportunity to be part of that change.
