Preamble

: An Inclusive and Resilient Democracy
The United Democrats of Waterbury recognize that the Democratic Party has guided our city through significant challenges, prioritizing safety, economic growth, and social equity. However, party leadership has concentrated power, limiting transparency and open governance within our ranks. As a result, new ideas are often dismissed, leading to a lack of diverse representation across age, geography, gender, and sexual identity.
The United Democrats of Greater Waterbury remain steadfast in our commitment to democracy, advocating for free and fair elections and the protection of voting rights. We believe in the fundamental equality of all people—regardless of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, or citizenship. Everyone deserves the freedom to be themselves, love who they choose, and build their families as they see fit. Our economic vision ensures prosperity for all, advocating for wage equity, workers’ rights, and the growth of the middle class in our City. Labor organizations are vital to fair wages and workplace protections.
We steadfastly uplifting those in most need in the Brass City.
We are united in our belief that:
All citizens of Waterbury need economic relief and we should at all times keep these issues at the forefront, everyone has skin in the game, renters, homeowners, and business owners.
All voices deserve representation in our City’s democracy.
Healthy clean and save environments for all residents.
Every Waterbury child deserves high-quality education.
Expansion of Funding for Greening and expanding Urban Forestry in our City.
Public safety must be balanced with criminal justice reform.
Affordable housing is a fundamental need.
Local Government needs modernization
In order to strengthen the trust from our citizens we must increase transparency and accountability in Government and in our local Democratic Party.
We are DEMOCRATS and should be proud of that and not hide from it and align with the Democratic Party Platform of the State Party and National Party.
