Voting Rights
Democracy thrives when all voices are heard. We advocate for:
Increasing voter registration efforts.
Fight for Rank Choice Voting in Waterbury Elections
Increase Civic Education in Schools (Including adding Model U.N.) / Bring back City Wide Youth Vote Day & Waterbury Youth Mayor for the Day.
Waterbury Government ModernizationWe prioritize:
Passing Ordinances removing concurrent office holders. Once an individual is elected to a concurrent office, they determine which position they wish to hold and must resign one position prior to being sworn into a new position.
Pass Ordinances requiring the including of District Representation of All City Boards and Commissions ensuring equity and transparency.
Passing Charter Changes / Ordinances that create attendance policy of Boards and Commissions, if a commissioner is in violation of attendance policies they can be removed or replaced.
We will fight for the passage of local term limits of Elected Officials, and Board and Commission Members.
Pass Charter Changes / Ordinances to enact Rank Choice Voting in the City of Waterbury.
Modernize and allow virtual participation from residents/business owners and community members at Aldermen and Board of Education Meetings.
Waterbury Democratic Town Committee Party Reforms
We prioritize:
Increase the consistency and frequency of Waterbury Democratic Town Committee Meetings that are publicly posted and open to Democrats throughout the City.
Increase the consistency and frequency of District Level Waterbury Democratic Town Committee Meetings that are publicly posted and open to Democrats in their respective Districts.
Waterbury Democratic Town Committee By-laws Review Commission and taking an entire year to perform a listening tour and hearing how City Democrats want their party to operate and change for the 21st Century.
Including passing a provision that would create a similar rule that would prohibit local elected officials from holding District or City-Wide Town Chair positions and creating a Super Delegate Model allowing Elected Officials to serve as Ex-Officio members of the DTC. They can attend meetings, be heard, and must be accountable to and answer the local party.
Provide Party Candidate Trainings and tools to Welcome Accountability / Challenges via party primary and create clear processes for individual(s) who are interested in seeking Democratic Party Endorsement and or Primary Challenges of Incumbent Candidates including Democratic Town Committee seats themselves. Competition creates better candidates and thus elected officials, and more options are a good thing for the City-wide Party Members and residents of this City.
